House Republicans have advanced a joint resolution to the floor which would put limits on abortion rights that voters added to the state constitution in November.
The resolution would allow abortions only before the 12th week of pregnancy, and only for an exception such as rape, incest or health of the mother.
Branson Republican Representative Brian Seitz tells the Missouri News Network that the goal is to change the language of Amendment Three to what many legislators believe was the original intent of the voter.
After the bill was presented, testimony was limited to five slots each, for and against. After the allotted slots were used, people were only allowed to record their position on the bill. That angered opponent who vocally protested. Some eventually were escorted out of the hearing room.
The bill passed out of committee on a party-line vote.
