A Boone County woman is facing theft charges after allegedly stealing cash and a credit card from a victim’s home after he was asleep.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a report of stolen cash and credit card on January 10th. The victim told investigators 30-year-old Brooklyn Campbell was at his residence two days prior and had seen where his wallet was kept hidden.
The victim told authorities Campbell had left his home during the night when an unknown friend picked her up. When he woke the next morning, he checked his wallet and noticed $450 in cash and a credit card missing. The victim stated the only other person allowed in the residence was his uncle and believed Campbell came back to his residence during the night and allegedly took the money and credit card.
The victim’s credit card company stated the card had been used for three transactions at a Casey’s convenience store in Berryville.
On January 11, investigators observed Campbell in the parking lot of the Berryville Casey’s and when approached, she told authorities a friend had picked her up from the victim’s home. Before they left, the friend went into the victim’s home and came back outside with a bag. Campbell stated she told him to return the bag back the house, but instead they left. She denied taking the money and using the victim’s credit card.
Video surveillance showed Campbell removing the victim’s credit card from her purse to pay for the items on all three transactions.
Campbell has been charged with one felony count of theft of debit/credit card and currently being held in the Boone County Sheriff’s Office on $2,500 bond.
