The numbers of passengers flying in and out of the Branson Airport are not what was projected when the airport first opened in 2009, but current management hopes the recent success of Sun Country Air will turn the tide.
In a recent investigative feature report by Ozarks First, Airport Director Stan Field says that Sun Country's passenger numbers have been good and he hopes that the momentum will lead to interests from other airlines to provide service. Field adds that though the airport has faced an uphill battle since it opened, things were trending in a positive direction until COVID hit in 2020 and disrupted the airline industry.
The report details the history of airlines that have served the airport and including Airtran, Southwest, and Frontier and tracked numbers of passengers passed on what has been paid to the airport by the City of Branson per an agreement that has the city pay $8.24 per outbound passenger.
