Line dancing class is available in Harrison at Buckets Sports Bar & Grill.
Laurie Jones appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss the class she's teaching; it's free Buckets, and registration is not required. This class is mainly for beginners from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Different dances and songs can be requested from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Jones also teaches at a bar in Branson and will soon teach at North Arkansas College; the class at the college is not free.
She said while many people watch line dancing and try to learn as they go, it's far more easy to attend a class. Line dancing, she said, is made up of a "sequence of patterns." The patterns are repeated over the duration of the dance.
Line dancing comes with health benefits. Jones explained that it helps "muscle memory" and added that it's a good form of exercise.
She also said it can aid in guarding against Alzheimer's and dementia because of the memory used in remembering the line dancing steps. The combination of body and mind working during the dancing is beneficial. Jones said it also elevates heart rate, so line dancing is good exercise.
Jones began teaching line dancing after seeing a local need for it. At first, she was teaching it at The Moose, but they stopped the class.
When Buckets opened, she said they needed an instructor and began teaching there. When teaching there, she usually teaches a one-hour session. Attendees will learn three to four dances and review them during the next session.
More was discussed during the broadcast. The full interview with Jones is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
