Branson's aldermen talked about the renewal of the CID for downtown Branson.
That happened during a study session on Tuesday night. Kyle Yung explained that the CID makes the red trolleys and more possible. He said the first CID kicked off 18 years ago, and renewal is due in close to two years.
What has the CID made possible?
- Freel trolley
- Aubrey bathroom remodel
- Updated landscaping
- New Christmas snowflake lights
- The trolley shelter
- A 30-foot Christmas tree will soon go across from Peddler Pete's
Much of that was done in partnership with the Branson government. Economically, the district has helped address a "parking deficit" by moving thousands of people monthly and millions of people throughout the 18 years of the CID.
Later, Alderman Marshall Howden asked about the possibility of making the trolley "city-wide" by connecting the work to the 76 CID. Yung said there is an interest, but the legal details are unknown to him.
At a later point, Branson Mayor Larry Milton said the feedback he has received from downtown businesses hasn't been enthusiastic. The question is whether addressing the actual need of parking would yield more benefit than the trolley.
Milton asked Yung if he has received supportive comments about the trolley. Yung replied that he has heard positive feedback about it from businesses and tourists.
