Buying a Book This Week can Help Kids get Books

Junior Auxiliary of Taney County has a good opportunity to promote reading for kids.

The auxiliary's Sheila Martin appeared on KRZK's "The Upside with Josh and Them" to discuss this week's event. It's a book drive at Books-A-Million. While buying a book at the store, customers will have the option to donate a book to the auxiliary's Celebrate Reading project.

Shoppers can pick a book from a display containing selections the group prefers. The books will go to the auxiliary's community room after the drive.

This book drive started on July 21 and will wrap up on Aug. 18. Martin dove into what the Celebrate Reading project is all about.

It launched in 2013 under a different name. It was called Book Swap.

Martin explained that the auxiliary has a room of books for toddlers all the way up to junior high students. They collect books for these age groups and then deliver them over a period of time. They have a method of curating books.

She said they have a network of people, including newly retired teachers, to keep up with the kids' reading trends. They also have the classic books.

More information is available online. The full interview is on the show's Facebook Page.
