A volunteer firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty will be honored on the anniversary of his death.

Western Taney County Fire Battalion Chief David Straub was one of several volunteer firefighters that responded to a call of a pair of individuals that were trapped on Baird Mountain as they were repelling on March 26, 1990. Straub was in the process of propelling down for the rescue when his rope severed and he dropped 100 feet. He eventually died due to his injuries.

Straub, who was also an entertainer singing with shows including the Plummer Family, will be honored at a dedication Tuesday morning at 11:00 on Trophy Run Road off of Highway 165 near Baird Mountain. That area of Trophy Run Road will be dedicated "Heroes Way" in honor of Straub. The dedication is being coordinated by the Taney County 100 Club.

More information is available on the picture with this story plus an interview from March 21 with Straub's wife Sammi Johnson and daughter Mandy Stauffer along with Corey Roebuck of the Taney County 100 Club on KRZK's "The Upside" Program can be seen on the Upside Facebook Page.
