A Springfield woman is facing possible jail time in connection with a fatal vehicle crash in Stone County in 2022.
Cindy Sue Evans has been charged with two counts of 2nd Degree Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with an accident on Aug. 27, 2022, which killed Mark and Shawnda Maples.
According to documents filed in Stone County court, the Missouri State Highway Patrol was called to the scene of a motor vehicle crash on Route N in Stone County. After EMS arrived, the trooper investigated the crash site and examined Evans’ Chevrolet Cruze which had crashed into a barbed wire fence. After speaking with Evans, the trooper administered a preliminary breath test and found she had not been drinking any alcohol.
The felony complaint filed by Stone County Prosecuting Attorney Matt Selby cites “criminal negligence in that the defendant was driving on the wrong side of the road at night.”
If convicted on both counts, Evans could be sentenced to up to eight years in prison.
