Charges have been filed against a man who is alleged to have shot a Forsyth Police Officer on Tuesday night.

36-year-old David Viner of St. Clair is facing charges of First-Degree Assault and Armed Criminal Action for the shooting of the officer during the investigation of a road rage incident that had occurred at the intersection of Highway 160 and 76 near Kissee Mills.

Forsyth Police, in Mutual Aid assistance with the Taney County Sheriff’s Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol, was investigating the road rage incident when the officer, who’s name has not been released at his request, saw Viner walking along Highway 160. According to the probable cause statement, the officer made contact with Viner when he shot the officer in the back twice. Viner fled into the nearby woods where he was later caught.

Viner is currently being held without bond in the Taney County Jail in Forsyth while the officer, who was wearing a bullet proof vest, was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment and was later released.
