College of the Ozarks Chorale to perform concert Thursday, April 7

On Thursday, April 7, at 7:30 p.m., the College of the Ozarks Chorale will perform a concert in the Williams Memorial Chapel. The concert, “Angel,” is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required: seating is first-come, first served.

The main piece being performed at the concert is a 20-minute cantata entitled, “Snow Angel.” It is a contemporary choral piece written for choir, piano, cello, and djembe. Also, three speakers will tell a story about different angels in the world. Two of the speaking parts will be performed by students from School of the Ozarks.

The College of the Ozarks Chorale is an auditioned group of 23 singers that perform a wide range of advanced music in many styles and languages. The Chorale is directed by Nathan Cornelius, adjunct music professor.

"In our society, angels are mentioned everywhere: guardian angels, messenger angels, angels of mercy, and so on. In this program we will explore different ways that angels have been depicted in song and choral music,” Cornelius said. “How have composers and poets conveyed angels in their writing? How can we as performers bring angels to life in the eyes and ears of our audience?”
