Avoiding a deer in the road is what caused a Forsyth School Bus to crash injuring over a dozen people on the bus Tuesday evening.
Forsyth School Superintendent Dr. Jeff Mingus tells Ozarks First that the bus was taking the Panther Cheerleaders to the Forsyth Boys Basketball Game in the Spokane Tournament when a deer entered the roadway on Highway 160/248 near the Highway 13 intersection. The driver swerved to miss the deer with the back of the bus hitting two driveways which bounced the passengers in the back of the bus straight up and down.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol report listed 15 people as injured, including the driver. Mingus said most of the injuries were concussions and whiplash though one student did suffer some broken ribs and a punctured lung. That student was still in the hospital as of Wednesday afternoon but was probably going to be released Wednesday evening or today.
Mingus also told Ozarks First that the school bus suffered some minor damage but will be back in rotation once repairs are made.
