A concern about long-term residents of two hotels in Branson West, the Colonial Mountain Inn and the Lakeview Inn, being made to leave in the middle of the coldest part of the winter season is raising as many questions as answers.
Residents of the Colonial Mountain Inn received a notice from Robert Smith, operator of the business, which reads:
“1/15/25 the city notified us they feel we are in violation of our operating license by allowing you to stay under our 7 day policy. They have directed us to stop this policy. To that end we are notifying you that you will need to find a new place. We are appealing this directive but can not renew your stay beyond your current reservation.
“We are sorry for the short notice but can only give you the time we were allowed. If you have any questions, you can reach out to City Hall at (417) 272-3313. When Noel returns at the end of the week she will do all she can to help you find other accommodations.”
A letter from the city was the focus of the notice given to residents, but Branson West officials claim their letter did not tell Smith to evict the residents. City attorney Harry Styron told Branson Tri-Lakes News the city’s administrator Steve Dalton wanted to have a conversation with Smith about taking care of issues with the property related to city codes.
