Former Radio Station Owner Charles Earls Passes Away

The longtime owner of several radio stations in the region has died.

Charles "Charlie" Earls passed away Monday in Branson. Charlie Earls and his wife Scottie came to the Branson area in 1986 and with Rod and Carol Orr formed Orr and Earls Broadcasting and bought stations KOMC-AM and KRZK-FM. The ownership eventually added KOMC-FM and then after the Earls bought out the Orrs in the early 2000s, added KHOZ-AM and FM in Harrison. The stations transitioned into the current line-up of KCAX AM/FM, KOMC, KRZK, KHBZ, and KHOZ AM/FM before the Earls retired in 2015.

Earls got involved in radio during his time in the Air Force and after leaving military service, got his first paying job in radio in 1960 and eventually bought his first station, KTHS in Berryville, in 1966.

Earls was inducted into the Missouri Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2021.

Son Scott Earls says in a social media post that Visitation and Funeral Services for Charlies Earls will be next Monday at the Branson United Methodist Church beginning at 12:30.
