Heat Ramps Up as Dry Conditions Grow

A fall-like week in the Lakes Region wraps-up with temperatures beginning to get back to summertime levels.

According to the National Weather Service, highs are back in the 90s in many areas today and will get to the mid to upper 90s by the first of next week. Heat Index Readings are expected back to around 100 starting on Saturday and continuing through the middle of next week.
Little or no rain is expected in the Lakes Region over the next week.

While the last month has seen extended periods of dry conditions, there has been just enough rain to keep most of the area drought free.

The latest map issued Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates the majority of the Lakes Region remains drought free. Abnormally Dry Conditions are indicated in the western parts of the region including Barry and southwestern Stone Counties in Missouri along with central and western Carroll and northern Madison Counties in Arkansas. The Abnormally Dry Level indicates increased fire danger in those areas.

Though not included in a drought level, many area rivers and streams continue to be at low levels. This includes the Buffalo National River, which is still has low water levels over most of the river.

No rain is in the forecast for the Lakes Region for the next week.
