A man has been found guilty of crimes committed over 30 years ago.
According to court documents 63-year-old Tony Lee Wagner of Fort Scott, Kansas was found guilty after a jury trail of the assaults and rapes of two women from Texas in the Henning State Forest in 1992. The crime had gone unsolved for 30 years until 2022, when according to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, their continued investigation with the Taney County Sheriff's office along with advancing forensic technology led to the identification of Wagner as a suspect at which time he was arrested by Fort Scott Police.
Court documents indicated that the trial was moved on a change of venue from Taney to Ozark County and after several delays, the trail began last Monday in Ozark County Circuit Court. The trial lasted four days resulting in a guilty verdict from the jury and a recommendation of a sentence of Life without Parole.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for the case in July in Taney County Circuit Court.
