REPUBLIC, Mo. – This week, the Food and Drug Administration officially banned the use of one food dye known as Red Dye 3, the artificial coloring used in drinks, candies, and desserts along with certain medications.
Pharmacist Greg Serocki with Hines Street Pharmacy in Republic says he’s happy to hear about the ban.
“I definitely think it’s a step in the right direction to get rid of it, especially if it’s a known carcinogen. It’s linked to a lot of behavioral problems in kids. So, I think if we can eliminate one problem, it’s all for the patient safety and it’s for the better,” says Serocki.
