Martin: Take Care of Yourself and First Responders

As the Lakes Region continues to thaw out from Winter Storm Kingston, one area Emergency Manager reminds people to take care of themselves while at the same time keeping first responders safe.

Stone County Director Tom Martin, during an interview on KRZK’s “Ozarks Now” program, reminds people that the desire to begin shoveling snow to clear driveways and sidewalks needs to be tempered with pacing oneself against a higher amount of stress put on the body. Add that the extreme cold temperatures could overwhelm people quickly.

At the same time, Martin added taking care of oneself and not running a risk of injury or illness is a good way to protect first responders. Martin says the fewer calls they have to go on, the safer everybody will be during the extreme weather.

Martin also talked about road safety and provided a brief update on the new Stone County Ambulance District Board which can be heard with the complete interview below:
