Moe Bandy reacted with warmth and gratitude to "Moe Bandy Day" proclamation.
Bandy took to the microphone during the Branson Board of Aldermen meeting to explain that he wasn't certain of what was going to occur at the Tuesday night meeting. "I found out what we were doing. I'm amazed. I'm honored," he said. The singer recalled the early days of his career in Branson.
In 1990, he came to Branson and had a theater taken down to later build the Americana Theatre. Bandy commented on the positive experience he had in that timeframe. Later, Bandy would own the theater and eventually sell it.
The full proclamation ceremony and Bandy's reaction are available to view online.
Branson Mayor Larry Milton's proclamation is below:
A proclamation honoring Moe Bandy for his iconic career performing in Branson, Missouri for a significant period of time and proclaiming May 28th, 2024 as Moe Bandy Day in Branson.
WHEREAS, it is recognized that country music singer Moe Bandy was born in Meridian, Mississippi, the same hometown as “the Father of Country Music” Jimmie Rodgers and it was in that environment that Bandy spent his early years. Moe would go on to explain that his grandfather worked the railyards with Jimmie Rodgers and that he was always playing his guitar between work hours. But it was Moe’s father who taught him to play guitar as they grew up in a musical family; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that Moe became a country hit maker in the 1970’s achieving a number 1 hit as a solo artist with the song “I Cheated Me Right Out of You”; and would go on to have more hits as a part of a country duo alongside Joe Stampley; and
WHEREAS, later in his career, Moe would open the Americana Theatre in Branson fitting right in with the Faith, Family and Flag culture of the community. “Bandy the Rodeo Clown” would go on to entertain audiences in Branson’s heyday and beyond.
Now, therefore, I, Larry Milton, Mayor of the City of Branson, Missouri hereby proclaim that on this day of May 28th we celebrate the career of Mr. Moe Bandy and his contributions to Branson adorned with an American flag and his iconic cowboy hat!
