More Rain, Storms Hit Region, James River Under Flood Warning

A file photo from flooding on the James River earlier this year. The river is above Flood Stage after showers over the weekend.

While most of the Lakes Region was spared the strongest of the storms, other areas did receive significant rain and some storm damage.

Reports posted by the National Weather Service include some thunderstorm damage in the metro Springfield area with several trees reported down and several areas including parts of Greene, Christian, Douglas, and Ozark Counties and a portion of northeastern Taney County suffering power outages.

Heavy rain was the biggest threat of the storms with numerous flood reports in areas extending from Springfield southeast through Ava to West Plains. Areas around Springfield received four to seven inches of rain. The rain has impacted the James River in Stone County, which remains under a Flood Warning through Wednesday morning. The river is expected to crest at 20 feet today, which is five feet above Flood Stage, then drop back down during the day on Tuesday.

A dry period is in the forecast this week with no rain currently in the forecast for the week and temperatures warming into the 90s late this week.
