MSHP Works Serious Accidents on Land and Water

A busy Saturday for the Missouri State Highway Patrol Saturday in the Lakes Region.

Troop D worked a total of four traffic crashes and one incident on the water, three of which resulted in serious injuries.

The first of two serious traffic crashes takes place on Highway 76/Ozarks Mountain High Road near the Highway 248 interchange just before 10:00 when a car skidded on the wet highway traveling down an embankment and struck a tree. A man and a woman from the Kansas City area were taken to Cox South in Springfield for treatment.

The second serious injury accident takes place on Highway 160 near the Highway 248 intersection around 1:45 when a vehicle driven by 44-year-old Bridget Smith of Sparta traveled off the road striking a tree and a fence. Smith was also taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. 

Serious injuries are also the result of an accident on Table Rock Lake near Point 5 around 3:30 when a boat sped up to pull a skier out of the water causing injuries to 37-year-old Melanie Carr of Springfield who was also taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
