The National Weather Service has confirmed that a brief EF-0 Tornado did hit the ground south of Hollister Monday afternoon.

A survey conducted by the NWS Tuesday indicates the tornado likely formed just west of the Payne’s Valley Golf Course near Fruit Farm Road then was on the ground for just over a mile before dissipating at Payne’s Valley. The survey indicates the tornado lasted around two minutes with damage limited to small trees and branches being snapped.

Justin Titus of the Springfield NWS Office, during an interview on KRZK’s “Ozarks Now” program, explained why a Tornado Warning was not issued for the storm, saying that the rotation started and stopped so quickly that it was not indicated on radar. Titus said the Weather Service about the same time decided to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning because of the strength of the storm which stayed together and caused some minor damage in Ozark County, though no other tornado rotation was detected.
