Some residents of the Lakes Region are getting some much-needed rain, but temperatures will remain hot for most.

The National Weather Service in Springfield has a Heat Advisory in effect for most of the Lakes Region while Ozark County remains in an Excessive Heat Warning for this afternoon. Temperatures are expected around 100 again today with Heat Index Readings between 105-110.

While remaining hot, temperatures will be slightly cooler over the weekend with highs in the low to mid 90’s, temperatures will surge back to around 100 first of the week.

Despite the rain falling for some today, the region is falling into an abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions overall with not much rain in the overall forecast after today for the next week.

UPDATE: A storm surge Friday morning brought brief heavy rain and winds to some in the region. Some tree limbs were knocked down in some areas due to the heavy winds. Emergency Management reports to the National Weather Service that four to six inch tree limbs were knocked down in downtown Branson.
