Rain Improves Drought Conditions in Lakes Region

The heavy rain that fell earlier this week deposited several inches of rain and lowered the drought level in some sections of the lakes region according to the latest report issued Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor.

The biggest change is in the Missouri Section of the Lakes Region with southern parts of Stone and Taney Counties as well as most of Barry County lowered from a Severe to Moderate Drought Level while northern parts of Stone and Taney Counties has actually seen the level drop to just Abnormally Dry. While some of Ozark County has dropped to a Moderate Drought much of the southern region around Bull Shoals and Norfork Lakes are still at a Severe Drought Level.

In Arkansas, most of Boone and Carroll Counties have also dropped from Severe to Moderate Drought Levels while much of the rest of the region remains at a Severe Level.

Not all of the rainfall earlier this week was figured into this Drought Report and with more rain in the forecast, the possibility of lower Drought Levels next week are possible.
