Recovery Center of the Ozarks Offers Peer-Provided Help

Executive Director of Recovery Center of the Ozarks Rodney Beaver said on Thursday that although the center obtained nonprofit status close to a year ago, the center itself opened closer to April of this year.

Beaver appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss it and more. While this wasn't of his own creation, Beaver said it has "become my baby." He credited the board of directors with bringing the "residential rehabilitation center" to life. He said it serves people living on the streets and people and jail.

He said the people they serve have substance use issues and realize that they need help. These addictions, Beaver said, are the result of a combination of addictive personalities, choices and bad circumstances.

The executive director revealed that drugs and alcohol gripped his life, adding that he had no idea what to do and was needing help. He said situations vary, but there's a common realization of needing help.

The center provides help in the form of a "peer-based program." Beaver said the people involved in the center are "in recovery themselves." The benefit of this is that the ones offering help have been in the shoes of the people they're helping.

More information, including contact information is available online. More was discussed on the broadcast.

The full interview with Beaver is on the "Around The Table" Facebook Page.
