Recovery Jamboree Celebrates People in Recovery on Saturday

Tammy McLaughlin, owner and director of the Stone County Recovery Center, and Marietta Hagan, Cox Health Project Coordinator, talked Thursday about the Recovery Jamboree happening this Saturday.

McLaughlin and Hagan made an appearance on KRZK's The Upside with Josh (Clark) and Them to talk about Saturday's event which runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sanctuary of Hope Church. The Recovery Jamboree is on the second year run. Local organizations in Stone and Taney counties unite to put on the one day jamboree to celebrate people in recovery. Hagan said the event has "fair type atmosphere."

That atmosphere includes free lunch, free food distribution, games, snow cones and popcorn machines. McLaughlin discussed the importance of recovery-focused events.

"It's a personal endeavor because I myself am in recovery," McLaughlin. She said by October she will be in recovery for nine years. She said when she didn't know of places where she could seek help when starting her recovery process. "It took Stone County kicking in my door and me asking for help instead of going to prison," she said.
