Seitz Bill Heard Before House Judiciary Committee

A bill that a Lakes Area Representative has refiled for the 2024 Legislative Session went before a House Committee recently.

State Representative Brian Seitz refiled the bill that would extend the statute of limitations for a victim of child sex abuse from 10 to 20 years after their 21st Birthday for reporting such a crime.

During an interview last year on KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program, Seitz said part of the reasons he proposed the bill was due to the trauma the victims of the abuse that occurred at Kanakuk Kamp involving former counselor Pete Newman who is in prison after being convicted of several counts of abuse.

Some of the victims and their family members testified along with Seitz at the recent hearing. Last year, the bill passed the House unanimously but never to get considered by the Senate.

A recap of the recent hearing by Jason Wert can be found on the Branson Tri-Lakes News Website.
