Sixth Grade Class Adopts Calf Through Discover Dairy

A sixth-grade class adopted a calf; more on this story is in the press release Branson Schools press release below.

Meet Maggie; the calf that Jahalah Myers sixth grade class has adopted through Discover Dairy.

Maggie, a Holstein breed, hails from the Bunse Dairy Farm in Cosby, Missouri. Bunse Dairy is owned and operated by Steven and Nathan Bunse and Farmer Amy Dudeck. Their 420-acre dairy farm was established in 1886 and here they raise over 45 dairy cows and 60 calves and heifers.

This is the second year that Myers class at Cedar Ridge Intermediate has participated in the Adopt-A-Cow program. "The farm shares updates on our cow and information about dairy farming throughout the year," says Myers. "Needless to say, we're all a little obsessed with Maggie."

Discover Dairy sends photos of the cow, activity sheets for the students, an informational PowerPoint, and a suggested lesson that follows Missouri Learning Standards through email. Students also write letters to their calf and host farm family throughout the school year.

The Adopt-A-Cow program is free for all educators to enjoy. For more information visit https://www.discoverdairy.com/adopt-a-cow/
