Today is a big day for longtime Branson Football Coach Steve Hancock.
Hancock will be honored in ceremonies tonight at Pirates Stadium as the first inductee into the school's "Coaches Wall of Fame" that will honor coaches that have had lasting impacts at the school and in the community. The ceremony will take place at 7:30 prior to the kick-off of the 2023 season against the Joplin Eagles.
The entire day will be declared "Steve Hancock Day" in the city after Mayor Larry Milton made a Proclamation at Tuesday's Board of Aldermen Meeting. Hancock was on hand to receive the proclamation along with some family members.
Hancock arrived in Branson in 1986 after beginning his head coaching career at Stockton, and led the Pirates to 197 wins before leaving after the 2013 season. After spending six seasons as head coach at Springfield Catholic, Hancock returned to Branson in 2020 to serve as an assistant on the staff of Head Coach Anthony Hays, a role he continues under current Head Coach Aaron Hafner.
