Theatre Company of the Ozarks (TCTO) desires to build up its kid's program.
Shelby Waters appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss it. She said the idea came to her in December. It's a "recreational theatre education program." It does more than put on kid's shows.
It aims to train kids in all facets of theatre. This includes performance, music, tech and more. "In order to keep the theatre company growing and to foster the love of the arts inside our Harrison community-it starts with the kids," Waters said.
The program will launch this Saturday with a six-week-long reader's theatre event. Waters said this requires zero memorization of scripts. She said the program is broken into three categories: minis, juniors and teens.
That covers ages six to 18. The two younger groups will perform scripts in mid-July. The teens will perform a stage-adapted radio play.
The vision for the program doesn't end there. Waters said the goal is to get kids doing a couple of plays and one junior musical a year. Other activities will be added, and she expressed that the hope is to make the program year-round.
Parents can still register their kids. 45 spots were available; 34 have been taken. Registration closes on June 1 at 11:59 p.m.
