Thursday Storms Knockout Power, Impact Fireworks Events

Another round of strong to severe thunderstorms made its way through the Ozarks Thursday night causing several power outages and also impacting some Fireworks Celebrations.

White River Valley Electric still reports around 300 outages, mainly in Christian and Douglas Counites, this morning after the storms moved through between 9 and 10:00 Thursday night. The National Weather Service posted several reports of tree branches and limbs down along the Highway 14 corridor from Billings to Clever through Nixa and Ozark. Wind gusts of around 70 MPH were reported as the storm moved through.

While storms that moved through the Lakes Region were not quite as strong, there was an effect on one Fireworks event as the City of Hollister Postponed their Fireworks Display until this evening. City Officials tell Legends 1063 that the postponement was for the safety of the crew running the show as well as those attending. The storms moved through the Lakes Region around the time the Hollister Fireworks Show would have been underway. The show tonight will be around 9:00 and Legends 1063 will air the music and countdown for the display.

Another show impacted by the storm was the Harrison “Fire in the Sky” event. According to the Explore Harrison Facebook Page, the fireworks went off around a half hour earlier than scheduled due to the approaching storms.
