Tornados, Storms, Heavy Rain Move Through the Region

The final wave of showers and thunderstorms that moved through the region produced a couple of tornados.

The first occurred as part of a storm that moved through northern Stone County around 8:30 Sunday evening. While a tornado touchdown has not been confirmed, reports to the National Weather Service in Springfield indicated trees were down due to high wind near the intersection of Highways K and M while a tree fell into a house on Highway K, all near the Stone-Christian County line between Hurley and Clever.

The second tornado was reported in Carroll County near Carrollton. According to a report to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, a broadcast media camera caught the tornado just after 10:00 which was part of a severe storm that had made its way across northern Arkansas. Both Carroll and parts of Boone Counties were under a Tornado Warning for a time though the storm weakened, and the warning was cancelled before the storm moved out of Arkansas into Missouri.

Besides tornados and severe thunderstorms, many areas of flooding have been reported, especially in southern Missouri. A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for areas east of Branson in Taney County including Forsyth, Taneyville, and Bradleyville. Parts of Douglas and Ozark Counties are also included in the warning.

Flood Warnings are in effect for several rivers including the James River at Galena, which is expected to crest at 16.7 feet, nearly two feet above flood stage, early Tuesday morning before receding. Flood Warnings also remain in effect for areas of Barry County around Flat Creek until mid-afternoon today.

Also, visibility will be an issue in some areas as a Fog Advisory is out for parts of the region until mid-morning with visibility reduced to one half mile in some areas.
