A Missouri State Highway Patrol Trooper killed during a traffic stop in the Lakes Region in the 1980's is one of five honored Wednesday in a ceremony.

Jimmie Linegar was killed in the traffic stop in 1985 that took place in southern Taney County near the Highway 65 and 86 intersection when Linegar and fellow trooper Allen Hines were doing spot checks on vehicles, one which turned out to be a fugitive wanted on charges in another state. The suspect killed Linegar and injured Hines and before fleeing the scene, later to be caught near Forsyth.

The monument for Linegar and four other honored troopers was erected last year but the ceremony was postponed until yesterday due to concerns with the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The portion of Highway 65 between Highway 265 and the Missouri-Arkansas State Line is dedicated to Linegar.
