Missouri Governor Mike Parson announces a new incentive program to encourage citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
The program, called MO VIP, will allow those that have or will receive the vaccine between now and October 8 a chance to win $10,000 or for those ages 12 to 17, a chance at $10,000 toward an education savings account. Drawings will begin on August 13.
In announcing the program on Wednesday, Parson said it is important for people to make the right choice for them plus consult with their personal family doctor in making that choice to get vaccinated. Parson said he had met with several K-12 Administrators to try and get the facts out to younger people about getting vaccinated, which so far reports indicate only 30% of Missourians aged 12-24 having received at least one shot.
Parson also announced during the press conference that around 47% of all Missourians have received at least one dose of the vaccine. According to an Associated Press report, that is about 10% below the national average.
