Merry Burleson started Merry Bee Murals in 2006; the widely skilled artist has done work for many clients.
Burleson appeared on KHOZ's "Around The Table" to discuss her art and business. The artist said she launched her business that year during which she had her second child and wasn't able to pay for childcare for two children. "God gave me a talent, and I felt like it was something I needed to utilize, and it kind of just blossomed from there," Burleson said.
She worked on windows, but she said her first job was painting her doctor's rooms. "My doctor that delivered my babies actually hired me to paint six of his rooms."
The local artist has enjoyed success without ever advertising. Word of mouth drives traffic to her business. Despite this, Burleson said she's surprised when new people call her looking for artwork.
Burleson isn't a stranger to painting on a variety of surfaces. She said she has painted coolers, mailboxes, kids bedrooms along with more public works in town.
"I do a lot of commissioned work and private residences too," Burleson said. While she didn't share every artistic secret, Burleson commented on how she turns ideas into physical art.
She admitted that it's difficult to explain, but she added that she takes steps back to proportion her work. If anyone is concerned about messes, there's good news.
Burleson said that she is a "pretty clean artist" and that her work involves very little dripping. Additional information is on Facebook. More was discussed on the broadcast.
