
UPDATE: A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Missouri Lakes Region on Tuesday until Wednesday Morning. 6-10 inches of snow are possible along and north of a Cassville-Branson-Gainesville line with areas south of that line could see 6-8 inches. Snow amounts will decrease in areas south of Harrison.
A major winter storm is set to strike the Lakes Region this week.
The storm, named Kingston by the National Weather Service, is currently riding the jet stream entering the northwestern United States. The storm is expected to arrive on Tuesday bringing heavy snow then extreme cold conditions to finish out the week.
Taking reports from the NWS, Ozarks First, and other weather forecasters, here is the latest information on the upcoming storm:
-Snow in the Lakes Region is expected to start Tuesday morning. Some models indicate snow may start as late as mid-morning but most model indicate at least light snow most of the morning. Precipitation may start a little later Tuesday morning in northern Arkansas and may be mixed with some sleet. Precipitation in southern Missouri is expected to be all snow throughout the storm.
-Winter Storm Watches are currently in effect for all of the region for Tuesday and are expected to be upgraded to Winter Storm Warnings later today or Monday.
-Forecasters say their is a high chance of at least six inches of snow for the Missouri Lakes Region with double digit totals possible further north. Northern Arkansas is predicted to receive four to six inches with some higher amounts possible in higher elevations.
-Travel impacts are expected throughout the area extending into Wednesday. Gusty winds to impact travel visibilities during the storm.
-The storm will bring in extreme cold temperatures with highs only in he teens Wednesday and Thursday with lows at or below zero. Wind chills are expected to be below zero on Wednesday and Thursday.
