WTCFPD Chief Says Dry Conditions Increasing Fire Hazards

While rain has dotted parts of the region, much of the area remains dry which leads to a high fire risk.

Western Taney County Fire Protection District Chief Chris Berndt, during an interview on KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program, says that the overall area remains dry which can lead to possible fires. Berndt elaborated on his statement to Ozarks First last week saying this past 4th of July was the busiest in 10 years with numerous brush fires plus a couple of fires that destroyed a pair of homes north of Branson. Fireworks was a contributing factor in many of the fires.

Berndt added that their number of firefighters with the district is at a strong level which aided in answering the high number of calls on the 4th.

Berndt also reminded listeners that nearly 70% of all firefighter services in the national are volunteered base and that many of those in the Lakes Region and beyond can use more people. He says the cooperation of all Lakes Area Departments in Missouri and Arkansas has helped keep locals and visitors safe.
