The Forsyth Baseball and Softball teams open Mid-Lakes Conference play with road wins at Hollister on Tuesday.
On a windy day, the configuration of the ball fields led to different games and the wind blowing in at the baseball diamond resulted in a low-scoring 3-2 win while the wind blowing out at the softball field ended up in a high-scoring 18-7 result.
In the baseball match-up, the Tigers grabbed a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning only to see the Panthers score single runs in the sixth and seventh to pull out the win. Forsyth had to survive a bases loaded situation in the seventh with the potential game tying run thrown out at the plate to end the game.
Meanwhile, three home runs were hit in the softball game, two by Forsyth's Lili Roberts with Hollister's Rosy Blackwood hitting the other. The Lady Panthers had big innings to build the lead but the Lady Tigers kept answering until the fifth, when the Forsyth eventually got an 11 run lead and finished the game on a run rule.
The Lady Panthers added a win on Wednesday, holding off Crane 9-7 in a game moved to Forsyth due to the wet field in Crane. The Lady Panthers had a 5-2 lead going to the bottom of the sixth before the Lady Panthers cashed in on some Forsyth errors and got timely hits to grab a 6-5 lead. The Lady Panthers answered back, using the same formula to take a 9-6 in the seventh then holding on for the win.
Both Forsyth teams are scheduled to play Clever, baseball today, softball Friday weather permitting.
Meanwhile, Hollister teams have games scheduled as well, today at Fair Grove.
