Bobby Ray Hayes, age 83, of Cassville, Missouri.

Bobby Ray Hayes, age 83, of Cassville, Missouri passed away Friday, July 8, 2022 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri. 

He was born September 22, 1938 in Purdy, Missouri the son of O.C. and Rose (Perkins) Hayes. On April 14, 1962 in Miami, Oklahoma he was united in marriage to Kay Nunnallee, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Robert Hayes and his wife Tammy of Purdy, Missouri, Ernest Hayes of Cassville, Missouri and Kevin Hayes of Cassville, Missouri; one daughter, Glenna Gluckert of Granby, Missouri; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. 

Preceding him in death were his parents; four sisters, Lucille Hayes, Virginia Hayes, Louise Pryor and Ruby Barnett; three brothers, Red Hayes, Cotton Hayes and Slim Hayes. 

Bob attended school in Purdy, Missouri graduating from Purdy High School. Bob was employed with Contel, GTE and Verizon telephone companies as a lineman and telephone repairman for twenty-eight years from where he retired in November, 1992. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting and camping. He was a good gardener and enjoyed working outside and watching things grow. Bob and Kay liked to travel. He never passed a Shoney’s without stopping and eating breakfast. 

He was a member and attended Gunter Methodist Church near Butterfield with Reverend Jerry Nickle as their pastor and friend from 1970 until Bob’s health started failing. Bob and Kay were always in the same pew and enjoyed Jerry’s “old-time” preaching and Norman Spain leading the “old-time” singing. Bob sang bass and always sang his parts. He especially liked singing bass on “Life’s Evening Sun”. 

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Gunter Methodist Church in Butterfield, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Jerry Nickle, Pastor Mike Tharp and Reverend Lee Neill will conduct the services. Burial will be at Gunter Cemetery in Butterfield. 

The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time Thursday at Gunter Methodist Church. 

Contributions may be made to Gunter Cemetery in memory of Bob.
