Obituary
Daniel Jay Woods
October 27, 1942 – December 8, 2022
Dan was a faithful man, loving and supportive of his wife, children and grandchildren. Unfortunately, Alzheimer ’s disease began to give them a slow goodbye. At the end, his wife of nearly 59 years and his two children stood watch to see him through to the other side. Daniel passed peacefully at 10:29 p.m., December 8, in residence at Point Lookout Nursing and Rehab in Hollister, Missouri.
Dan spent his early years in and around Muncie, Indiana where he attended Yorktown High School. He excelled in Track and Field activities with the High School and in county events. He went on to Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana (now called Trine University) where he achieved a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was also active in Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity. After marriage and work at International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Dan went on to obtain a Master’s in Engineering at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. From there the growing family moved on to Fort Worth, Texas; Plymouth, Michigan; Sarasota, Florida and then to the Silicon Valley of California. In California he worked for Xerox, retiring from Xerox Colorgraphix. He then worked a short time for Oce, continuing his management skills with the development of wide format color printer/plotters.
Dan and Barbara moved to Sacramento, California following his retirement. There he was very active in the Experiencing God Club at Heritage Park Active Adult Community. He experienced two baptisms: one in the pool at Heritage Park and the other in the River Jordan in Israel while on tour there. Together, Dan and Barbara enjoyed other cruise tours to Alaska, the Panama Canal, Mediterranean Sea and to the British Isles. They also traveled into each of the fifty states during their years together. Dan and Barbara moved to Forsyth, Missouri during their later years.
Daniel was gentle and quiet in spirit, but very supportive of the various activities of his family. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, Bocce, softball and coaching his daughter’s softball team. In Sacramento, he organized and led Bocce activities at Heritage Park for several years and being quite skilled, he brought home six tournament medals over the years.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents, Franklin Earl and Esther Woods. He is survived and lovingly missed by his wife, Barbara Woods and children, David Woods (Tina) and Jennifer Snyder (Eric) and by his grandchildren, Brittney and Heather Woods and Grant and Jessica Snyder. He also is missed by his brothers, Mike Woods, Ted Woods and Craig Woods as well as many friends.
There will be a delayed private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice of Springfield, Missouri or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Cremation is under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins funeral Home Forsyth, MO.
