Diane Kay Thompson, age 76, of Washburn, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022 at her home.
She was born November 17,1945 in Chickasha, Oklahoma the daughter of Walter and Jewel Ruby (Roberson) Hunzeker. Diane’s mother passed away soon after her birth and she was raised by her uncle and aunt Stanley and Annie Jones of Adair, Oklahoma. On November 19, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Calton A. Thompson, who preceded her in death on March 21, 2005. Also preceding her in death were her parents; aunt and uncle and one sister, Mildred Jean McLandsborough.
Surviving are one son, Tol Ray Thompson and his wife Marcilee of Washburn, Missouri; four grandchildren, Teresa, Cody, Josh and Keisha and two great grandchildren, Elijah and Carson.
Diane grew up in Oklahoma graduating from high school in Adair, Oklahoma, later attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where she attained a bachelor’s degree. Moving to the Washburn area in 1968 she began teaching third grade at Southwest Elementary School in Washburn from where she retired. Diane enjoyed teaching, the outdoors, tending her flowers and she loved playing with her chickens. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Mission Baptist Church in Washburn.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at Mission Baptist Church in Washburn, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor Dayton Brattin will conduct the services. Burial will be at Washburn Prairie Cemetery in Washburn.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
