Donna Marie Smith, age 89, of Washburn, Missouri

             Donna Marie Smith, age 89, of Washburn, Missouri passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at home, surrounded by her family.

            She was born October 2, 1934 in Washburn, Missouri the daughter of William Spearman and Fern Marie (Shields) Laney. On July 8, 1953 in Exeter, Missouri she was united in marriage to Donnie Smith, who preceded her in death on December 19, 2018. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Charles Laney, Jerry Laney, Dayton Laney and Tom Laney and one sister, Elizabeth Ellison.

            Surviving are three daughters, Debra Wheeler and her husband Gary of Seligman, Missouri, Deena Black and her husband Ray of Washburn, Missouri and Dortha Brooks and her husband Allen of Washburn, Missouri; six grandchildren, Terra and Michael Harper, Jessica and Jeff Sainsbury, Jennifer and Everisto Orellana, Jeremy and Destiny Black, Aaron and April Brooks and Stacy and Ryan Hendrix; 18 great grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Lorene Dotson of Purdy, Missouri and Dortha Belle Woolaway of Fairview, Missouri; one brother, Joe Laney and his wife Kathy of Pioneer, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Betty Laney and Mardell Laney and several nieces and nephews.

            Donna grew up on the farm in Washburn, Missouri and graduated from Washburn School in 1952. She ran a duck catching crew, helped on the farm, worked a few various jobs, raised puppies and was a homemaker.

            She enjoyed being outside, taking drives, hunting mushrooms, watching her grandchildren play sports, going hunting with Donnie and watching Wheel of Fortune. In past years she enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible School. Donna was a member of Washburn First Baptist Church.

            The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital in Cassville and Julie, Shawnta, Spring, Sherry, Dana, Paula and all of the ladies at Compassus Hospice in Monett for the wonderful care they gave our mother and grandmother!

            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 9, 2024 at Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort, Missouri, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Rick Hendrix will conduct the service.

            Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Donna.
