Dorothy “Dottie” Marie (Spencer) Cassity-Showalter

Dorothy “Dottie” Marie (Spencer) Cassity-Showalter, passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Branson, Missouri, following a struggle with cancer.

Dottie was born on July 31, 1936 in Bucyrus, Kansas, where she attended school until her Senior year, when her school closed and she transferred to Spring Hill High School. Dottie was a very active student, involved in cheerleading and was voted Homecoming Queen her Senior year. After graduation, Dottie moved to Kansas City, where she secured employment and met the first love of her life, Lee Cassity.

In 1954, Dottie and Lee married, and they made their home in Independence, Missouri. In 1957, Lee was drafted into the Army and they were stationed in Augusta, Georgia for two years, where their first son, Douglas Cassity was born. In 1959 they returned to Blue Springs, Missouri, where they lived with Lees parents while building their first home in Raytown, Missouri. Lee returned to his employer, KCP&L and shortly after, their second child was born, Penny Cassity-Trimble. In 1959, Lee was electrocuted on the job and spent a year at home recuperating. In 1962, they welcomed their third child into the family, Steven Cassity.

In 1971, Dottie and Lee moved to Platte Woods, Missouri, to be closer to Dottie’s work, at TWA. There they raised their family and they spent many happy years traveling and entertaining their family at their home. After retiring from TWA/American airlines, Dottie and Lee then sold their home and traveled the world.

After Lee passed away, in 2002, after 48 years of marriage, Dottie lived on her own, until she met the second love of her life, Bob Showalter, from Arkansas. Bob and Dottie were married on December 20, 2003. They made a beautiful, comfortable life, in Branson, Missouri, where they enjoyed golfing and traveling.

Dottie is survived by her husband, Bob Showalter of Branson, Missouri, her children, Douglas Cassity (Cindy) Hollister, Missouri; Penny Trimble (Richard) New York and Steven Cassity (Kerri) Missouri. Dottie was blessed with eleven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; her brother-in-law Art Knop, of Louisiana; as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Preceding Dottie’s death was her husband, Lee Cassity; sister, Carol Knop; and parents Lorin & Rachel Spencer.

Graveside services will be Thursday, September 1, 2022 at 1:00 PM in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, Branson under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory.
