J. Joe Hamilton, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, November 19, 2021, in St. Louis.
Born to Joseph and Mabel Hamilton in Stratford, Texas. Beloved husband of Barbara Hamilton for 28 years; dearest father of Philip Hamilton, Jeanne Ann Broombaugh, and Paul (Jamie) Hamilton; dear stepfather of Becky Chambers and Anna Wheeler; proud papa of Jennifer
(Isaac), Michael (Jessica), Heather (Scott), Andrew (Amanda), Jacob (Charlene), Samuel, Bethany (Colin), Colin, Matt, Connor, Griffen, Rob, and Marshall; adoring great-papa to Jonathan, Caleb, David, Liam, Nathan, Noah, Jadzia, Alexia (Dennis), Kalei, and Adelyn; beloved brother of Lynette Low; dear brother-in-law of Martha Eden, Rahel Eden, Jonathan (Tammy) Eden, Juanita Fox, and Joan Eden; devoted uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Martha Eden Hamilton of 36 years, his sister Mary Helen Fisk Kundert, his brother-in laws Lloyd Fisk, Don Low, Ernest Cowherd, James Eden, David Eden; his sister-in-law Mary Jeanette Cowherd; his grandchildren Michael Andrew, Daniel, and Benjamin; and his nephew Mark Low; and his niece Shari Fisk.
Joe's family moved from Texas to Purdy, MO, in 1948 at the beginning of his senior year. He graduated from Purdy High School in 1949. Joe served in the US Air Force and was stationed in Korea. He graduated from Missouri State University. In 1962, Joe began his 33-year career with the Associated General Contractors of St. Louis with 28 years as Executive Vice President. He was elected Chairman of the National AGC Executive Leadership Council in 1987. In 1995, he received the AGC of St. Louis Award and awards from the Women in Construction. Following his retirement, he volunteered for 10 years as a wish granter for the Make-A-Wish Foundation then worked 10 years for Seniors Home Care.
Joe’s greatest joy was his service to his Lord and Savior. He served at Southwest Baptist Church for over 50 years in various capacities such as deacon, chairman of the deacons, Building
Committee, Finance Committee, Sunday School teacher and director, RA leader, deaf ministry, and dishwasher. He then faithfully attended and supported the ministries at Canaan Baptist
Church.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Butterfield under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Philip Hamilton will conduct the services.
