Jeanne Golla Hreha Shumaker of Hollister, MO, formerly of Pittsburgh and Swissvale, PA and Simi Valley, CA, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was the daughter of the late Mary Ellen Gallagher and John Golla, sister of the late Cecelia and Stella Golla, Margaret Golla MacBeth and Grace Golla Glace. Wife of the late John C. Hreha and Harry A. Shumaker. Mother of the late John R. Hreha, James M. Hreha, and Joseph P. Hreha Sr. Surviving members of her family are Joseph’s wife, Victoria (Scheidt) Hreha, her daughter-in-law, two grandsons, Joseph P. Hreha Jr. and Timothy M. Hreha, plus 5 great grandchildren, Dalyn Hreha (Andrews), Kylee, Aerial, Chance and Jordyn and great great granddaughter Tatum Andrews.
Jeanne adored her three sons and called them the “light of her life.” She held various jobs throughout the years. She was a secretary at the University of Pittsburgh and later in the Nuclear Physics Cyclotron Lab as a microscopist. Also for the Institute of Transfusional Medicine as a lab technician. Before and after retiring, she volunteered at the hospital, sang in the choir at Saint Anselm Catholic Church, and volunteered in their many ministries as well as helping as a Teacher’s Aide in their school. She enjoyed traveling to many places both here and abroad.
After 73 years in Pennsylvania, Jeanne moved to Simi Valley, CA to be near her only living son, Joe and family. She joined St. Rose of Lima Church and sang in their choir. She also volunteered at the Simi Valley Hospital and City Hall. While there, she joined two senior centers where she enjoyed singing and acting in various roles. She lived in Simi Valley for 6 years. When her son, Joe, retired, she moved to Hollister, MO with them.
Jeanne joined Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was very active in their ministries as a Eucharistic Minister, being involved in the prayer shawl ministry and working in the office. She volunteered at Cox Hospital for 10 years. Jeanne belonged to the Razzle Dazzle Red Hats and Branson Area Dinner Club.
She was proud of the fact that seven people in her family were either WWII, Vietnam or Gulf War Veterans. (1 in the Air Force, 1 in the Navy, 2 in the Army and 3 in the Marine Corps.)
Funeral mass will be Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Branson. Burial will be at 1:00 pm on April 9, 2025 in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood, Springfield, MO 65804. Services are in the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory, Branson.
