Joseph William Ward, Kimberling City, Missouri
Joseph William Ward, son of the late James Ward Sr. and Taresa Wachter (nee Gerber) passed away on July 25, 2023. Husband of Karen Susan Ward (nee York); father of Carolyn Tarrach (nee Bilbrough), Michael Ward, and Steven Ward; and father-in-law of Christopher Tarrach and Jamie Ward (nee Delaney). Beloved Pop Pop to Jessica, Victoria, Christina, Amanda Tarrach and Joseph Ward. Brother of Emma Gibson (nee Quinn) and preceded in death by brothers and sisters: James Ward Jr., Theresea Hrycenko (nee Quinn), Violet Marunich (nee Quinn), Cathy Quinn, Thomas Quinn, and Luke Quinn. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he enlisted in the US Army at 17 in 1966. He completed airborne training and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, KY. He deployed with the Rakkasans to South Vietnam where he earned the Bronze Star Medal in 1968. Following his army service, he returned to Philadelphia.
In 1975, he enlisted in the US Navy serving as a signalman on the USS Bristol County (LST-1198) in San Diego, California. He deployed across the Western Pacific to the Philippines, Japan, and the Republic of Korea. Following his navy service, he remained in San Diego where he met his wife, Sue, and worked for Union Bank of California for 32 years in the data processing center.
In retirement, he resided in Kimberling City, Missouri, where enjoyed living on lake time and visiting with his grandchildren.
