Larry B. Swain...

Beloved Husband, Father, Educator, Entrepreneur, and Friend

Larry B. Swain, a man of boundless generosity, good-natured humor, and an indomitable entrepreneurial spirit, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, innovation, and optimism. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rev. Connie Swain; his children: Steve Swain, Rebecca Swain, and Tim Swain; his 9 grandchildren; and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate to experience his warmth and compassion.

Larry’s life was marked by his unwavering kindness and ability to connect with others driven by his faith in God. He had a knack for making people laugh with his quick wit and good-natured sense of humor, brightening even the darkest days. As an amazing provider, he ensured his family was not only cared for but also surrounded by love, security, and inspiration. Well-loved by friends and colleagues alike, Larry’s magnetic personality and generosity of spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

An educator by calling, Larry shared his wisdom and passion at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, University of Nebraska, and South Dakota State University. He was deeply committed to shaping minds and nurturing the next generation of leaders, always encouraging his students to dream big and embrace learning as a lifelong journey.

Larry was also a consummate entrepreneur, launching 18 businesses over 55 years with boundless energy and vision. His journey began in grade school when he sold his mother’s garden vegetables door to door to earn candy money, igniting a passion for business that would define his life. Over the years, Larry’s ventures spanned industries and communities—ag businesses, a restaurant, a campground, a bar, three slot car racing tracks, a craft and gift shop, an auction company, a consulting firm, a Christian counseling center with his wife Connie, a hunting lodge, micro creameries on family dairy farms, and a publishing company, among others.

Larry’s optimism was as infectious as it was enduring. He often said, “Everything is always a success to an entrepreneur. Even if you don’t do as good as you thought you were going to do, it’s a great learning experience.” These words were not only his mantra but also a reflection of his relentless drive and belief in the power of perseverance.

In addition to his entrepreneurial achievements, Larry spent eight years as a corporate executive, bringing his vision, humor, and generosity to the corporate world. His colleagues valued not just his expertise but also the laughter and camaraderie he brought to every interaction.

Above all, Larry was a man who loved the Lord and cared deeply for others. Whether offering a helping hand, a listening ear, or a word of encouragement, he made everyone feel valued and supported. He was a man who saw the best in people and worked tirelessly to lift them up.

Rest in peace, Larry. Your humor, kindness, and belief in the endless possibilities of life will live on in the hearts and memories of those who knew and loved you.
