Larry Elliott Kellogg was born on July 2, 1940 in Ava, Missouri to Walter & Angelene Kellogg. He was raised on the family dairy farm which was the first Grade A dairy farm in the Springfield area. As a teenager, he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in the James River. He served in both the Missouri National Guard and United States Army. He also was a reserve officer for the Springfield Police Department and served as a Deputy Sheriff in Stone County.
Larry was an exceptional athlete in a variety of sports. At Fordland High School he lettered in all sports including baseball, track and basketball — where he unofficially holds the record for most points scored in a game at 42 (which preceded the 3 point shot). Later in life he developed into a masterful golfer even once shooting a hole in one. This led to him working as a golf course supervisor in Wickenburg, Arizona for 14 years.
Larry was an avid bowler shooting a 700 series and several 290 plus games. As a young adult, Larry was recruited into several jobs so that he would play on the company’s fast pitch softball team. Not only did the company get a great player — but also a dedicated and hardworking employee. Larry’s passion for sports inspired his children and grandchildren to pursue similar athletic pursuits
He was a life long St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan who never missed a chance to listen to his favorite team on the radio.
Larry married his dear wife, Lavon, on January 23, 1984 in Miami, Oklahoma. He cherished time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Larry was also an active member with Life Christian Center and later First Baptist Church in Branson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Jacob Kellogg.
Larry leaves behind, his wife Lavon Kellogg of Branson; children, Steven Kellogg (Deatrice) of Springfield, Gregory Kellogg (Stephanie) of Springfield, Kim Cook (Dave) of Overland Park, KS; step-children, Guy Johnston (Barbara) of Branson and Gina Patton (Howard) of Downers Grove, IL; his brother, Kenny Kellogg of Springfield; sister, Cynthia Burr of Springfield; seven grandchildren and five step-grandchildren along with his extended family and friends.
