Lorene Alice Coones Carney received her angel wings on Monday, August 8, 2022.
At home in peaceful sleep surrounded by her daughters singing her favorite hymns, scripture passages and prayers of thanksgiving Lorene answered her Savior’s gentle whisper “well done good and faithful servant, enter now into the joy of your Lord.” Matt 25:23 Lorene was born in Cape Fair, MO on February 25, 1928 to Leonard Charles and Louisa (Foster) Coones. She grew up in and around Cassville.
Preceding her in death was husband Troy Gene Carney; her parents; son Jeffrey Charles Jones; great grandson Charles Pierce Glendenning; father of her children Donald B. Jones; sister Reba Lucille Coones Turner (Tom) Cassville and brothers Gene D. Coones (Maetta Blythe) Cassville and Leonard Carl Coones (Mae Lynn Holloway) Springfield, MO.
Surviving are five daughters, Donna Jones Morrison (David) Harvest, AL; Elizabeth Jones Sheraden (Bruce) Springfield, IL; Patricia Jones Cargile (Jack) Washburn, MO; Kathleen Jones Neal (Scott-deceased) Carol Jones Morrow (Johnny) Topeka, KS; one sister Shirley
Coones Goin Warrensburg, MO; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mother was reacquainted with her high school sweetheart Troy “Cotton” Carney and after a short courtship they married on October 9, 1996 in Eureka Springs, AR. They shared their brief time together residing between northern CA near Troy’s family and southwest MO near her family. After Troy’s passing mother returned to their lake home in Shell Knob, MO. Mother enjoyed her bible studies, reading but especially loved crocheting. As a faithful member of the East Side Church of Christ in Monett she was affectionately known as “the doily lady, always leaving one to each of the shut-ins that she and her dear friend Doris Langford would visit every week. Our mother had what could only be described as an adventurous life. She and our daddy moved from MO to CA and back again several times while raising us six kids. We are not saying that she never complained of her lot (after raising children of our own we know better!) but she stayed dedicated through the thick and thin of our family life. We recall traveling through the desert at night because of the extreme heat with no air conditioning (can you imagine driving 3000 miles with six kids in a sedan EVEN WITH air conditioning!?)
As mother aged, sister Kathy invited her to live with her which she did until her passing. We sisters will never be able to express the depth of our gratitude to her for the sacrificial, loving care she gave Mother during the last eight years. She surely will receive an extra special crown for her faithfulness in honoring our mother and also our father before her.
The greatest gift our Mother gave us was her strong belief and trust in the saving grace of our Savior Jesus Christ. As her old tired body was preparing to be made new, we told her again.
In memory of Lorene contributions to Integrity Home Care & Hospice, Monett would be appreciated all staff went above and beyond with their love and care of our Mother.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, August 12, 2022 at Old Carney Cemetery in Jenkins, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Laith Hayward will conduct the services.
