Martin Nuñez

Martin Ruben Luna Nuñez was born on June 16, 1967 in San Javier, Durango, Mexico

Martin Ruben Luna Nuñez was born on June 16, 1967 in San Javier, Durango, Mexico and passed away on April 8, 2022. He came to the United States in 1975 with his parents, Hermila Nuñez de Luna and Antonio Luna and his two sisters, Yolanda and Soledad.  Martin never forgot his roots and visited his grandparents, Juanita Nuñez and Nicolas Nuñez and aunts and uncles in their ranch “El Tanque” near Santa Maria del Oro, Durango. Martin always liked dressing like a cowboy, he liked horse racing, western and karate movies and when he was a young adult, he liked to drive his 1994 white Chevy pickup to 26th Street in Chicago, IL and cruise with the music playing loud. He also loved to go to the “Casino Tropical” to listen to his favorite bands and tamborazos. Martin was a joyful, happy person.

Martin went to two elementary schools, Lincoln School and Jane Adams and he went to Proviso East High School in Maywood, IL. Martin worked in construction for many years in Chicago until he suffered an accident. Martin fell in love with Rosalba Alvarado, a special education teacher in Sta. Maria and they married on August 12, 1995. They lived in Maywood, IL for several years then moved to Rocky Comfort, Missouri and most recently in Wheaton, Missouri. Rosalba was the strength, motivation, care and support that Martin needed in every difficult moment especially after his open-heart surgery when he almost lost his life and suffered a long and painful recovery.

Martin is survived by his loving wife, Rosalba Alvarado de Luna, a brother, four sisters and twelve nieces and nephews. Yolanda Luna and her daughter and son, Stephanie A. Luna and Oscar A. Luna; Soledad Luna and her daughter and three sons, Monica L. Bahena, Antonio Bahena Jr., Sergio Gonzalez Jr., and Alexander Gonzalez; Elsa Luna and her son, Christian L. Burgos; George Luna and his two daughters and two sons, Jasmine A. Luna, George Luna Jr., Natalia I. Luna y Nicholas A. Luna; Estela Luna and her daughter, Danielle L. Rodriguez.

Martin was a family man. He loved his parents while they were alive and his brother, sisters, nieces and nephews, all the same but he shared a special bond and affection with his nephew Oscar, who also loved him like a father. For Martin his aunts, uncles and cousins were very important and he kept in touch with many of them. He didn’t need facebook or the newspaper to find out what was happening with them. Some cousins were like brothers or sisters and they treated each other as such. Martin was a man of his word and every person who met him cared and respected him. Some friends were so special, they became an extension of his family.

Martin was playful and loved to tease and tell jokes and make everyone laugh so I think he would like us to hold on to those memories and remember him that way.  Dear Martin, rest in peace for you are in our hearts and we will never forget you.

Services will be held at 12:00 P.M. Monday, April 18, 2022 at St. Edward Catholic Church in Cassville under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Father William Hodgson will conduct the services. Burial will be at Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 10:00 P.M. Sunday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
