Monreen “Kay” McDowell Skiles, age 90 of Cape Fair, Missouri
Loving Mother and Wife, Monreen “Kay” McDowell Skiles 90 of Cape Fair, entered into rest on Thursday, August 3, 2023. A viewing will be held Friday, August 11, 2023, from 9:00am to 11:00 under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home and Crematory, Branson Missouri. A Graveside service immediately following the viewing will be at Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Kean officiating.
Kay was born October 23, 1932, at the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, KS. Kay was the daughter of the late Winfred Gerald (Jim) McDowell and Wanda Reed McDowell. She was the youngest of eleven children. She graduated from Louisburg High School in 1950.
She moved to Kansas City after graduating high school and worked in several locations in Kansas City. She attended airline school in Omaha Nebraska. After training she moved to Arlington Virginia and worked for Capital Airlines at the Washington National Airport (Now known as the Ronald Reagan). In 1955 she moved back to Wichita Kansas and worked for Boeing in the bookkeeping department. In October of 1955 she met the love of her life, Richard A. Skiles on a blind date. They were married April 14, 1956. Richard was in the Air Force, so Kay became a military wife, moving to several locations and taking care of the home and children while Richard was flying. After serving 22 years in the military, Richard and Kay retired and moved to Cape Fair MO. Kay worked at Table Rock Bank (now US Bank) for 13 years. After retiring she traveled and helped out with grandchildren. She loved to travel and was able to go to Hawaii several times, Italy, Germany, Austria, Canada and many locations in the States. She liked to read and watch old movies. She was active in church, serving as church treasurer/secretary into her 80’s. She loved the LORD and made sure all 5 children were raised in church.
Kay is survived by 5 children and their spouses, Judy and Ron Bearskin, Randy Skiles, Sandra and David Walker, Richard and Monica Skiles. Robin and Bill Dunagan; 9 Grandchildren, Heather Barron, Nicole McNeil, Samantha Bearskin, Jamie Bearskin, Richard Bearskin, Megan Kenna, Daniel Walker, Matthew Walker, Ellie Dunagan; 10 Great Grandchildren, Kyle Flynn, Sophia Barron, Dayton and Savannah McNeil, Braden Bearskin, Skylar Quinn, Zaydin and Averee Bearskin, Carson and Brooklyn Kenna; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Kay was preceded in death by seven sisters, three brothers and her beloved husband Richard.
